Brussels bets on women’s sport
Brussels is not just any city. As the capital of Belgium and the seat of the European institutions, it is launching a four-year programme to boost women’s sport, and it has chosen Sport and Citizenship as its partner to help design and deliver it.
From 2026 to 2029, the City of Brussels and our think tank will develop and put into practice new measures to increase girls’ and women’s participation in sport: access to clubs and facilities, tackling dropout, and greater visibility for female athletes.
Sport and Citizenship will contribute its expertise, drawing on years of work with European experts and on-the-ground projects, to help the City turn findings into concrete, lasting policy.
Each year of the programme will be marked by a major conference at the prestigious Brussels City Hall, where clubs, athletes and local stakeholders will review progress and discuss the next steps. The first one takes place on 9 November at 6:30 pm and is open to everyone.
