Sport and mental health: a second Citizens’ Sport Conference
As the Year of the Grande Cause Nationale in France dedicated to mental health draws to a close, Sport and Citizenship wishes to highlight the role of sport, and physical activity more broadly, as a key factor in preventing mental health disorders at every stage of life and for all groups in society. To this end, it is organizing a new Citizens’ Sport Conference on Tuesday, 9 December 2025 in Paris, on this theme.
In mental health, as in many other areas of society, the social impact of sport is well established. For many years, our Think tank has examined issues linked to the mental health of elite athletes. We have also looked at the psychological well-being of employees in the workplace through physical activity. Today, sport is also increasingly recognized as playing an effective role in therapeutic pathways, including in the treatment of depression and bipolar disorder.
This Citizens’ Sport Conference, which has been awarded the Parlons santé mentale ! label as part of the Grande Cause Nationale 2025, is also an opportunity for Sport and Citizenship, together with all its partners and sponsors supporting the event, to join in the fight against the stigma surrounding mental health conditions.
As with the earlier Citizens’ Sport Conferences, several experts in sport and mental health will speak alongside elite athletes and individuals with lived experience. The first round table will highlight the central role of sport and physical activity in prevention as well as in treatment. The second will focus on the impact of performance pressures on the mental health of elite athletes.
Our ambition is to move the lines, to break down taboos, and to provide concrete tools for change during this Citizens’ Sport Conference, to be held in French, which will take place on Tuesday, 9 December 2025 at the Maison du Sport français, 1 avenue Pierre de Coubertin, 75013 Paris.
