FIRE+ MOOC : Integrating refugees in Europe through football
A lot of volunteers in clubs and associations accross Europe have started local projects and initiatives to help refugees, migrants and asylum-seekers integrate in their host society thanks to football. Many others would like to do the same, but don’t know how to go about it.
The Online FIRE course (MOOC Fire) aims at teaching all the steps of setting up a project to include refugees through and in football. It’s free, online and interactive.
Who is it for?
The FIRE MOOC is open to everyone, but targets specifically :
- volunteers and members of football clubs in Europe that wish to develop a project of inclusion of refugees in their organisation;
- volunteers and members of football clubs in Europe that want to share their experience;
- volunteers and members of football clubs in Europe looking for information on the topic.

Learning objectives and certification
At the end of the course, you will be able to use your footballing activities to help refugees with integrating into their host society.
The learning objectives will be reached thanks to a combination of complementary inputs. First of all, lectures from experts will help you understand the reality lived by refugees and the challenges in their integration. This approach will be enriched by the sharing of practical skills and concrete methods, covering every step of a successful football initiative thanks to experience from professionals and committed volunteers. Many testimonies and examples from the field will complete this content, formulating clear advice and useful recommendations (‘do’s and don’ts’). For those who wish to go even further, additional resources and readings will also be available.
All along the course, the emphasis will be on applying knowledge and skills to your local ecosystem. Once you’ve passed all the quizzes, you’ll receive a certificate of completion.
