Sporting Breakfast

As part of European Week of Sport, which will take place from September 23rd to 30th, Sport and Citizenship will be hosting a breakfast debate on the impact of sport on ocean protection in Brussels on September 30th. For over 40 years, the European Union has emphasized the need to take action to combat climate change, protect the environment, and restore biodiversity, with policies such as the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.

The project “Ocean Sustainability through Education and Sport” (OSES), led by Sport and Citizenship, aims to educate young people about eco-responsible behaviors, both at sea and on the coast, through sport. This debate will be an opportunity to discuss the key role that sports activities can play in preserving marine ecosystems. Indeed, the “green sport” dimension has been integrated into the European Union’s Work Plan for Sport, highlighting that sport can contribute to the fight against climate change.

We will exchange on concrete initiatives implemented by sports organizations, both local and regional, as well as on the social and environmental impact of educational actions carried out on the ground.

Come and debate with us on how sport can raise awareness about the challenges of preserving oceans and seas, and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.

This breakfast debate marks the beginning of a new series of events. Our think tank wishes to create a friendly space for reflection to address major societal issues related to sport. In this format, which we would like to organize every 3 to 4 months in Brussels, we will be able to exchange in a small committee, fostering deep and constructive discussions. At the end of the discussions, we will share with you the central issue that has crystallized the debates.

This new event will bring together, among others, sports actors (institutional or private), scientists, and decision-makers such as Members of the European Parliament with the aim of creating a positive synergy around the challenges of the social impact of sport.
