IOC would triple its financial support
Thomas Bach announced on July 3rd that the International Olympic Committee would triple its financial support for Ukrainian athletes from 2.4 to 7.2 million euros. In this context of international crisis, the priority of the institution is to use its influence to condemn Russian actions and to ensure that Ukrainian athletes can proudly defend their colours during Paris 2024.

IOC EB recommends no participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials
IOC EB recommends no participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials; and urges all International Federations to relocate or cancel their sports events currently planned in Russia or Belarus. After the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Olympic Movement reaffirmed its mission to contribute to peace through sport and to unite the world in peaceful competition beyond all political disputes. Although the IOC usually chooses to hold a neutral speech in these situations, it decided to recommend two major measures.
First, the IOC EB recommends that International Sports Federations and sports event organisers not invite or allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions. Furthermore, no national symbols, colours, flags or anthems should be displayed. Then, the IOC went further in its symbolic sanctions. It urges all International Sports Federations to relocate or cancel their sports events currently planned in Russia or Belarus.

Gender equality and youth at the heart of the Paris 2024 Olympic Sports Programme
The executive board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the event programme and athlete quotas for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, which are centred on gender equality and youth.
