Mapping of School Sport in Europe

Understanding school sport equals reflecting on the disparities in terms of the organisation of sport in Europe. While the European model of sport is a factor of unity, it is also characterized by its diversity, as it is expressed in a multiplicity of sub-models depending on the country.

The Sport and Citizenship Think Tank is dedicated to analyzing trends and challenges in European sport policies. This mapping – organised in the form of factsheets – sheds light on school sport, an unappreciated activity which yet engages all children in physical activity across Europe.

The ISF and its network are portrayed throughout the document, in an attempt to provide a photography of their organisation, funding, activities and main challenges. In a more and more sedentary Europe, this seemed like a necessary effort for two reasons: because it has never been done and to assist in political decision-making in this field.
